The Texas Free Flow of Information Act was signed into law Wednesday by Governor Rick Perry. The legislation is the culmination of efforts by leaders of the Texas media spanning more than two decades in which Jackson Walker attorneys played key roles.
Ten years ago, a substantial segment of the press in Texas was against a shield law for reporters. And for a time, the First Amendment did indeed seem to provide all the protection one could expect from a state statute. But then the tide started to turn.
