The Final Increase in Minimum Wage

In early 2007, Congress passed the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, which raised the federal minimum wage incrementally over three years, from $5.15 per hour to $7.25 per hour. The final increase will become effective on July 24, 2009, when the federal minimum wage will be raised to $7.25 per hour.
Thus, all employers of employees subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act's minimum wage provisions must increase the minimum wage to $7.25 per hour on or before July 24, 2009. Similarly, the revised Federal minimum wage poster becomes effective on July 24, 2009, and should be posted on or before that date to replace the former FLSA posters in conspicuous places so as to give employees notice of the change. A free version of the revised poster is available by CLICKING HERE. A higher quality version of the poster may be purchased through various organizations. Additional posters and compliance assistance materials will be available from the DOL in the coming weeks, including Spanish and Chinese translations of the new minimum wage poster.
