New Minimum Wage Poster for the July 24th

Minimum Wage Increase

by Sarah Mitchell and Ray Clark

On July 3, 2007, the Department of Labor (DOL) released a revised Federal minimum wage poster reflecting the recently enacted three-step minimum wage increase which will incrementally raise the minimum wage by $2.10 over the next two years.  The first increment of the three-step increase raises the minimum wage to $5.85 per hour and takes effect on Tuesday, July 24, 2007.  The second increment raises the minimum wage to $6.55 per hour on July 24, 2008, and the final increment raises the minimum wage to $7.25 per hour on July 24, 2009.

All employers of employees subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s minimum wage provisions must increase the minimum wage to $5.85 per hour on or before July 24, 2007.  Similarly, the revised Federal minimum wage poster becomes effective on July 24, 2007, and should be posted on or before that date in a conspicuous place so as to permit employees to readily read it.  A free version of the revised poster is available by CLICKING HERE.  A higher quality version of the poster may be purchased through various organizations.  Additional posters and compliance assistance materials will be available from the DOL in the coming weeks, including Spanish and Chinese translations of the new minimum wage poster.
